Day 16

Today was a short day (50 miles) but very hilly.  Total elevation gain for the day was around 5,500ft.  Pedaled thru more groves of redwoods and along the Eel River.  Got into Standish- Hickey state park around 2:00pm and spent three hours sitting in the river, resting my legs.  I think the legs are tired- which could be a concern since the next two days will be the hardest of the entire trip!  Tommorrow I leave Hwy 101 and its up and over Legget Mtn to Route 1.

Jeff:

Erin and I both thought it was you when we passed you on 101 just south of Crescent City on Friday, so it is cool to confirm what we both thought. If we had not been pulling a 30 foot trailer and gearing up for the long drive home, we would have turned round to talk....but you were just starting the rough climb...and it was gnarly for sure....it was hard enough pulling the trailer up and down it...cannot imagine peddling a bike up it. I was impressed. We will keep watching the blog from time to time to check on progress...but it was really cool passing you and being able to have that little connection while we were both out on different adventures.

That definitely was a big hill out of Cresent City. A lift to the top would of made my day! But the fact I can still get up them is reward enough!
